Koni Struts Too Firm ????

Hey guys back in December i got my front struts/rear shocks replaced along with my springs on my 82 ws6 t/a.I have koni front struts and kyb gas-a just rear shocks and Moog springs.My problem is that they are too firm when my car hits train tracks or pot holes and rattles like a transit bus any ideas ??? Can i get a softer riding strut?

Several things;

1: Make sure the Koni's are set to FULL SOFT. The adjustment on Koni's is actually only suppossed to be used to compensate for wear. Obviously racers will find other uses for the adjsutment.

2: New Koni's go through a break in period. They are extremely stiff when new. After about 5,00 miles they will soften slightly to their designed stiffness.

3: What Moog # springs did you put in. The new springs may be stiffer than the old ones...most likely in fact.

Tokico Illumina's are a softer shock BTW...if the Koni's don't settle down enough for you.

Edit: What Koni style did you get? The Yellow Sports or the Standard Reds? The Yellows are much stiffer.

the rears springs are a problem, they are cargo coils, thick wire diam, meant to carry heavy loads and such.. get a pair of stock NNL rear springs and your ride SHOULD improve.

1: Take a small crescent wrench and turn the adjusting " Tit" counter-clockwise till it hits the stop. This is full soft. Easy does it, takes very little effort. Do not force it past trhe stop or you will damage things.

2: OK

3: Fronts certainly soft enough. Rears are Variable rate or Cargo Coils and are stiffer than liniar rates ( I checked Moog's Catalog ). 5665's are the standard rear spring. Edit: Sounds like you were only complaining about the front stiffness though. Is rear OK?

4: OK
