Play in the steering

I was told that I could tighten the screw in the top of the steering box at the end of the steering column under the hood to remove the play in the steering. Mine is slight, but noticable. Is this true? I would like to get it out and I was wondering if the same would be true for my Dad's 73 Corvette?

There are 2 adjustments in the box. It has been covered on here before, do a search and you should find what you are looking for. as for the vette, I don't know.
