Movement on LCA or balljoint?

Under front of my '89 TA 350 w/ 117,000 miles...
seems I can slightly turn/twist the Left & Right side lower control arms (not sure at all this is what they're called/are - maybe the lower ball joint arm?)... I can turn both of them about 1/4 or so turn.

It is the metal arm with all the threads on it and the side closest to the tire has like a cup and ball (balljoint?) with lots of grease around it. It also has a lube/grease point right behind the ball thingy.

First, what is the official name of this part ? LCA ? or Ball joint?
or other?

Is this normal ?
Should there be any play in both side like this ?

Seems that it IS ok especially since both sides (L & R) do about
exactly same thing.

My steering seems AOK... was just wondering when last under car and touched/noticed this ?

THANKS

You're describing the tie-rod ends (outer) there's an inner set that are connected to the outers by an adjusting sleeve. The end towards the wheel connects to the spindle. The ball joint connects the spindle to the lower control arm. Being able to twist them some is perfectly normal. They have to be able to twist to adjust to up and down motion of the control arm. Get a Haynes or Chilton and either can walk you through the checks and services on your suspension and much more.
