Torque arm delete?

If I install these http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...=egnsearch.asp will I be ok to run without a torque arm? I recently swaped rear ends and one of the people helping me tossed the bushing that go to the rear torque rm mount. I cant find the bushings for sale anywhere and I would rather not spend a ton getting a new torqu arm. I heard of one guy on here saying he went with LCAs and got rid of the torque arm and was ok.

I dont really understand what you are saying but the link to the SummitRacing website that you just posted has 8 different TQ Arm bushings for sale. I really dont think that your car will be able to make it through the first few redlights before your u-joints, lca's, or panhard bar snaps. I dont know for sure though b/c i have never driven a car with out a TQ arm. I had a 84 that the TQ arm broke at the tranny and by the time i got it 2 the house (2 miles away) it had nearly slammed a hole through the floorpan. Someone else might chime in that knows alot better than i do.

Install one of what? Still wrong link.

The torque arm keeps the diff from rotating. Without it, the first time you try to accellerate, the pinion yoke will twist upward and cause a lot of damage.

Third gens use torque arm suspension. The LCA are like the bottom bars of a 4 link system and the torque arm is like a 4 foot long ladder bar.

Mustangs, G-bodies etc use a triangulated 4-link system. The upper and lower bars keep the diff from rotating. First and second gens use leaf springs so the diff is clamped directly to the springs keeping it from rotating.

They are lakewood LCAs part number LAK-20140 at Sumitt

I guess I will just have to break down and buy a whole new torque arm. I pretty much knew this was the route I had to go I was just trying to talk myself out of it. I cant believe my next upgrade is going to be something I didnt have to have until some asshat threw away parts.

Those are direct replacement LCAs. You still need a torque arm.

The rear bushings. They go in the back of the torque arm where it mounts to the diff

The torque arm bolts solid to the diff. 2 bolts go through the torque arm and through the diff housing. They're supposed to be torqued to prevent case deflection for the pinion.

My original 87 rear did not need the bushings because it mounts flush. The rear end I put in has a gap and requires metal bushings to fill the gap. I saw the bushings when it came out so I know they do exsist.

Those aren't bushings, so much as they are spacers, about 1" or 1¼" in height. The 3 10-bolts I have here all have them (2 are 83's and the other is an 86).
Maybe the 9-bolts didn't use them, or later 10-bolts were modifiied to eliminate them?

Someone already beat me to it. They're spacers not bushings.

My car originally had a 9 bolt and never had spacers. When I swapped in a 10 bolt, it didn't use spacers either or at least I don't think either one did. I have a 9" with ladder bars now so that was a long time ago.

You can always go to an auto wrecker and pull the spacers off another third gen. Since the bolts come down from the top all you need to do is take the nuts off and pull the bolts up enough to get the spacers out.

Those are for a Jeep

I need what Pete said, thanks for the pic.

I thought about getting them from a junkyard but they sit up in the diff about an inch or so and most likey will be stuck in pretty good. I will probably end up going the junkyard route, I was just hoping I could find some replacement ones.

Would them not be able to work though? I really have never seen these spacers before but good luck on your search. Take alittle beating hammer with you when you go to pull em'.
