whats the best way to go to manuel steering?

I want to delete my power steering but am not sure of the best way to do it. Is there any company that makes a manuel steering box for our cars?

85-87 manual steering box out of 4cyl. s10s. i'd shoot for junkyards or get reman'd ones like i did from autozone for $165-ish IIRC.

I thought they were 84 and up S10 boxes. Anyway, they're the manual boxes with the 4 bolt top cover. They're a direct swap for a power steering box however you should reuse the third gen pitman arm. It's a slightly different length than the S10 pitman arm.

If you run wide front tires, parking lot driving will be tough. To compensate for the lack of power assist, the manual box has a deeper gear ratio to assist turning. The S10 box is 7 turns stop to stop while a typical power box is about 3 turns. A small custom steering wheel should be avoided.

You can usually find these S10 boxes on Ebay. They sell for anywhere between $30 and $100 depending on the demand. There's always at least one for sale ever week.

The biggest advantage to switching to a manual box is weight saving and to clean up the engine compartment.

I noticed that PA racing makes a manual rack also, would it be worth it to get that along with the S10 box? any reason to change the rack?

that manual rack is designed to work with a tubular k member in place of the gear box, not along side. also requires new steering shaft kit and modifications to the knuckles for the tie rods.

I did a manual conversion this summer. I hate it! The P/S will be going back on this winter. Picked up "ZERO" at the track. At least my muscles got bigger from steering through the pits.
