'Shakey' wheel

My 'RS has a bit of a pull 2 the right while braking. I havent attended to that problem yet but while changing a set of wheels I noticed the front passenger wheels has a bit a 'play' to it (which i'm sure isn't too safe). Meaning I shook it and it seems to move about considerably more than the other 3 wheels which all felt very firm. I'm now thinking that this may be the cause of the 'pull' rather than a brake issue. Any ideas what could be the cause? I dont wanna start randomly replacing steering components that I dont have to.

Ball joints were easy in my 88 roc.Just took 30 min to do one side.To get them out all you need is a bfh.To but them in use a ball joint press.
