Choosing the right Sub-Frame

Need help pn choosing the right sub-frame for my 1986 TA.
Has Anyone had their floor pan behind the drivers side seat break open right where the lower control arm meets the floor?
Well that's what happened to me. Any Help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric....

Sounds like you need a lot of work. Your best bet may be finding a new body shell to work with.

Got any pics of the damage?

Thats very interesting I'd like to see a pic of that also. I'd say the best thing to do is have a body shop install some subframe conectors. pic a good shop the will make sure the body is straight. I think the one UMI sells have the part that tore open one yours. I'd probly try it myself though. then just fill any holes in with some sheet metal

Take the car to a body shop to make sure that it's relatively straight, and to get the floor fixed. Buy a set of subframe connectors and have them welded in as well.

You'll be all set.

that sounds pretty bad, but before you go into welding metal sheets, check for rust, you may have some more cancerous rust and might as well replace it (if you take it to a body shop). I'd probably try it my self it's not that big of a job and in the process you'll learn how to weld (somewhat at least). for subframes you could try the boxed UMIs they seem descent and may help you.
Good luck!

Heres two, hope that helps
Do you have the website for the Sub frame connectors?

This happened 3 weeks ago when I tried out some Et streets out of 1st gear at 4,200rpm. On the way home my friend noticed that the carpet under his feet had a hump in it.

Thanks for the help...
Eric

Ouch....that's kinda nastly lookin. I would still say to take it to a reputable body shop in your area and see what they think of it. Tell them what happened, and tell them that if they think they can replace and repair that section of the floor, you want to put subframe connectors on it too.

Several companies make them, do a search in this forum to see what brands others like. Off the top of my head, I think most people say the UMI and Spohn ones are good.

If the body has rot like that, I can only wonder what the rest of the car is like. Repairing may cost you more than just getting another car.

You can see from the jagged edge that the floor has rusted through from the bottom, it also looks like you have tweaked your lower control arm mount. You could try to bend it back and install sub-frame connectos that weld to this location. But like already mentioned your probably have rust elsewhere on the car. It's time to get a screw driver and go under the car and see what else you can find. If it's just this one place then it might be worth rebuilding and saveing the shell. The nice thing about reparing floor pans is it doesn't have to look good since it's covered in carpet.

Thanks for the info...

Thanks, for all the help, I just ordered two floor pans, one for each side from Year One,unfortunatly they only had it in reproduction only so it was kinda expensive at 216.00 for each side. Oh well That will give my future sub-frames a good welding point to weld to.

Thanks,
Eric.....
