Torque Arm

I was wondering exactly how much does a torque arm help on these cars and is it necessary to have one?

Axle/Gears: Ford 9"/31 spline spool/4.86
When you accelerate, the differential wants to rotate upward. With only lower control arms, there's nothing to stop this rotation. That's what the torque arm does.
