Help Me Blow some Christmas Money
Guys,
I need advice. I am wanting to buy a set of Boyd's Smoothie IIs for my Camaro, and need some help with backspacing. I plan to run LS1 Brakes on the front and rear. I also want to use 17" rims. Can someone help me with the Backspacing needed for such a setup...

hey, to each his own, but god i hate those wheels...
what size and width are you looking for?

First what you wanna to is determine the widths front/rear since backspacing is based off width. So now that you know the width (9.5" wide) you can determine the backspacing. Your first choice is to make/buy a wheel spec tool that bolts to the hub to check exact clearances on your chassis, check www.skulte.com for info on that. Its a good idea to do this if you plan to drop big bucks on wheels, not everyones chassis is exactly the same. Second choice is go based on other peoples experiences with the same width wheels on their car. Lots of people go based off other peoples experiences, pictures really help. 9.5" wide is a common width, there are alot of people on the forum that use them. You can try a search to find pictures (search on "x9.5"). Whats tricky when determining fitment is there is a range of backspacing specs that will fit. From what I've seen people use between 5.25" and 5.5" backspacing on 9.5" wide wheels. When I ordered 9.5" wide I went with 5.5" backspacing. Regarding the brakes you'll need to determine how far in/out this will move the hub. People usually use offset to clearance special brakes. So in the end you'll be able to specify the backspacing you want for fitment, and the offset you want to clear the brakes.
