Tires for my 86Z

Hey everyone. I decided its about time to upgrade the tires on my 86 IROC-Z. The car is never gonna see any rain or snow and will probably be driven about 5000 miles a year. The motor is making about 350 hp. so Im looking for something with really good dry traction, wet doesnt matter. Cornering is important but straight line is more what im looking for. Price isnt really a big deal, I'd rather spend the money for good tires the first time than be disappointed and have to buy a second set. I have the stock 245/50R16's on right now but I was wondering could I step up to a wider 255 or 265/50R16? What tires would you guys recommend?

I like the Nitto Extremes. I have them on my RS. I had Falkens on my Iroc wheels, they were good too. I like the thread patterns. The Nittos were on my 72 malibu first. That has 350 horses also and they grabbed good.

Re: Tires for my 86Z

I thought I had basically narrowed it down to 2 tires but then I started looking around here and there are so many tires that get good and bad reviews from people that Ive had to expand my list. I had been looking at the Eagle F1 GS-D3's and the BFG KDW's (after they were recommended to me by more than a few people). But the im unsure of the KDW's because I remmeber reading a magazine article or two about the KDW's that came on the O3 Mach1 Mustangs being junk so I was kinda leaning toward the F1's but then I heard that there are multiple sub-designs of the KDWs. Which of the subdesigns of the KDW's are the best and which ones are the ones to avoid? Thanks

Re: Tires for my 86Z

If you want a very wide looking tire (rear only), go with BF Goodrich's Radial T/A 295/50-16. They don't hook as well as a good 255, but they fill out the fender gap very nicely, and I think theu just look in generally good. Put a cheap 255 up front, and you will be in buisness.
