Oasis IROC ?'s

I want to get a set of the 18x8 IROC's from Oasis, but with a twist. I don't really like the fact that they only come 8 inches wide, so I would have them widened by http://www.weldcraftwheels.com/Wide.htm. I would also have them pulled off the line before they are chromed so I can paint them to look like stock IROCs.

When the wheels are widened, the amount widened is added to the backspacing. So here is my question. What is the max amount of backspacing people have successfully run? I would only have them add 1 to 1.5 inches to the rim so I can run a little bigger rubber out back.

I know not everyone thinks this is a good idea, so if you have any non-constructive criticism or thoughts, please move along.

Re: Oasis IROC ?'s

it would be so much easier for the companies that make aftermarket itocs to just make them an inch wider. most people waNt it anyway

Re: Oasis IROC ?'s

Much agreed. I just posted on another thread here that very subject of me wanting to do that for awhile now. I really have just been hoping someday someone would just make an 17x9, or 17x9.5 and most perferably for the rear a 17x10 for a 275-40-17 tire which is still 25.7 inches tall or even a 285 40 17 which measures 26.1 inches tall and is still withing good wieght range any very wide. There is just no option on a wide low profile tire in 16 inch sio that is a waste of time- 17's would be great though- I know alot of you like 18's and larger but you just do not get the performance values off of larger heavier ewheels and less grippy straightline low profile tires that are also far less predictable in lateral slip anglesunder hard core cornering- they are less forgiving and when they break lateral grip they give far less warning. I would prefer 17's over 18's on a 25.7 inch dia tire.

Re: Oasis IROC ?'s

8" wide wheels fit more cars than 9" wide wheels, which is why that's the size they come in. Most guys who slap 50 pound 18" wheels onto their car don't tend to be performance oriented in the first place, so they use a size that will appeal to the most people.

However... all of my OASIS literature (I'm a dealer) says that the 18" wheel is an 8.5" width, not 8". That should be wide enough to fit a 275 tire without much issue. I haven't gotten a set of them in for myself yet though, so I can't verify.

Re: Oasis IROC ?'s

I just got a reply from Oasis about the backspacing on the wheels. it is 5". What is the most that people have run? Would 6 be ok, or is it too much.

Jim - if it is 8.5, that is better than 8! I will have to order them sometime this summer and measure them.

Re: Oasis IROC ?'s

Why not install 4th gen wheels (17"x9.5") along with the correct spacers?

I would not trust soneone to widen a wheel. Just seems like a disaster to happen.
