Building Scales

Those that know me around here over the last few years know I dabble in quite a few different things. I have some new Doors opening for me as of the start of this year and am having a blast.

One of those new opporutnities is I have been given full access to a $50K Bridgeport CNC 3 axis milling machine and am learning how tonot only operate it, but also learning how to program it using MasterCAM as well as the FEA stress analysis programs in designs. It may take me a few months to get very proficiant with this thing but this will open the door to me being able to finally prototype a few of my secret designs once the off season comes.

THe project I am currently building is a scale grid for the racecars. Tom (my race team owner) and I have been designing a scale rack that will level out and we drop each Intercomp scale into the corners then drive the car onto it. The entire grid is fully portable and will weigh under 100 lbs without the Intercomp scales in it (The scales are heavier than this on their own). This rack will support a 4000 lb car and has the adjuctments to set the wheelbase at all three 105,108, & 110 wheelbase NASCARS- (as well as getting my personal cars onto it )

I can't wait to get proficiant enough on this thing to thinker with my mumford setup- but for starters I will be milling new centercaps for the IROCS, a new shifter console plate design, and various other little goodies I need. I could easily make my custom brake brackets and hubcentric spacers that I had to previously order through EMachineShop.com for well over $400- Those 4 items would now cost me only about $40.
