iroc suspension?
ive got an 87 iroc parts car and was wondering what parts i could put on my 86 base firebird to make it handle better, i already swapped the 30/18 sway bars for the iroc 34/22's with a tds wonderbar....so what else?
is the steering box differant?
im going to swap the disc brake rearend to mine
are the springs lower than mine? shocks better?
anything else??

Re: iroc suspension?
Everything suspension wise will swap from the IROC to your Firebird. The steering box is a faster ratio box than your Firebird(plus it has different bump stops for the 16" wheels).
Look under the hood and the front as there are a few extra factory braces the IROC came with besides the steering brace(aka wonderbar - but you got the best in a TDS version IMHO).
The springs are higher rate but you might be better off getting new Moog replacement IROC/WS6 springs and possibly isolators(do it once and not have to go back unless money is an issue for now).
The same goes for the shocks/struts as you can get better unless those on your parts car are very low miles.
Did you upgrade the sway bar bushings and end links to poly?
When you swap the rear don't forget the porprtioning valve as it's different as are the parking brake cables.
The LCAs are the same as your Firebird(I don't know if the IROC used different durometer bushings than the other cars - 1LE is the one exception I know).Same for the panhard rod.Aftermarket would be the better route on these plus they come with new bushings and sometimes new hardware.
I'm sure others have more ideas or better suggestions.

Re: iroc suspension?
thanks! I did know about the proportioning valve. but not the bump stops or braces, i changed the front bushing to poly, im looking for a 36mm sway bar for the front though, any idea what the gear ratio on an 87 iroc 305 tpi with a 700r4? i was thinking 3.23s its also a 10 bolt, i know new shocks struts and springs would be the way to go.

Re: iroc suspension?
On the ratio the only definite way to know what is in there now is to remove the cover and count the teeth on the ring and pinion(or get the numbers off them). The other way to ID is there are numbers stamped into the right(passenger)axle tube that will give ratio code, whether or not posi, build date and build plant. Is the console door still in the car if so check the SPID(make sure the VIN matches the car) for the original axle and if posi.Is the rear a 9 bolt or 10 bolt?
The bump stops I spoke of are actually part of the steering box(internal). They are supposed to keep the tires from rubbing at full lock.Although I have 16" IROC wheels on my '83 Z28 and haven't had a problem with them rubbing(as of yet).
Just compare the front of the IROC to your FIrebird and you'll notice the extra braces.

Re: iroc suspension?
The rear ratio could be a 3.23 but it could also be a 2.73 or even a 3.08.That's why I suggested checking the axle for the code(as before the definite way is to look at the ring and pinion itself - good time to change the fluid if you haven't already - don't forget posi additive if equipped).Or the SPID as I mentioned before.
That sounds like a great combo.the only thing with using the Z06,or 4th Gen, wheels are the adaptors.
