Torque Arm Woes
I bought a new UMI torque arm in our GP recently. To install you have to remove the old front torque arm bushing which is riveted in the bracket which is mounted to the tailshaft of the trans(700R4). To remove bracket you must remove crossmember and lower complete engine/trans assy. so the mounting bolts can clear the trans tunnel and be removed. Well it can be done, if you do not have solid or poly motor mounts(I have ES poly) because it will not allow the assy. to lower enough to remove the torque arm bushing mount bolts. SOOOO, I had to cut off the rivets holding the bushing with a Dremel tool and a cut-off wheel. I then pried out the riveted bushing and installed new poly one and then mounted torque arm. Moral of the story: Install aftermarket torque arm and bushing before changing motor mounts to poly or solid. Believe me, you'll be glad you did. Badman

I took my whole "clamshell" assembly out without lowering the complete engine/trans assy. I just took the 4 bolts holding the tail housing out, then while it was out, I removed the clamshell assembly from it.

After looking at my GM Camaro service manual in the trans section, I can see that would be an easier way. Just need a new tailshaft housing gasket. Live and learn.
