Re: TIRE SIZES ???
I had some on my old 88 IROC--they rear sticks out a tiny bit more the the factory IROCs did--but it looked good.
Go with the 245/50/16 factory size---I got some Firestone Firehawk wide ovals--only drove the car for 15 min with them but no compliants

Eagle F1 GS-D3s, Falken RT-615 and Kumho MXs (although, MXs aren't a very good wet traction option).
I've heard good things about these, but never had them. I have BFG g-Force Sports (275/40R17) and they are a good tire for the money. But, if I had the extra money, I'd go with BFG KDW or GS-D3s (American).
245/50s all around would be what I'd get - you can rotate them and they are a stock option.

Eagle F-1s work good, but are very fragile. Watch out for road debris, curbs, etc. Expensive too.
Kumhos are great for the money, but at about 20K miles I was ready to get rid of mine, even though they still looked good. Korean quality control is not as tight as U.S. or Japanese. Forget about wet traction as well.
About the best all season performace tire out there is the Michelin ps2, but it aint cheap.
Personally I have ps2s on the front of my iroc and F-1s on the back. Might sound a little weird, but I've found it to be a remarkable combination.
And I agree, with stock wheel sizes, run stock tire sizes.

Re: TIRE SIZES ???
I have factory 91-92 Z28 wheels wrapped in KUMHO ECSTA AST 245/50HR-16's. So far traction and handling are light years ahead of the 225/65R-15 BFG Radial TA's that were on the car.
