Quick Question
Hey guys!
Im not a suspension buff, but I am forced to work on routine stuff
from time-to-time. Id love to learn more when my project gets to that
point. That being said, my project is in need.
1989 Pontiac Trans AM, stock suspension. I have a somewhat
severe noise during certian loads to the passenger side rear shock
absorber. It does a horrid "krick" (ha! can't replicate sound) when
turning a certain direction or speed bumps. It sounds like it's comming
from the inside back of the car where it mounts.
What is this noise? What part failed and what it's called?
I know where it's located, but what's the best way to get it?

Re: Quick Question
pull up the rear carpet behind the rear seats, might have to remove the interior plastics on that side too. right behind the seat you will find a foam piece that covers the shock mount and smooths things out. Pull it off and you will find the upper shock mount and he nut. Its possible that the mount has failed, if it has it will be obvious. It will require some fab work to fix.

Re: Quick Question
Ive have to investigate some more, but the sound is up-top and
in the wheel well for sure. The car sags a bit, but hardly noticeable
in the passenger rear.
Ill pull the carpet up and take a look, is this a common issue?

Re: Quick Question
Not sure if this is "common" but if its up top then like you said, its obviously not the sway bar. MAYBE the nut just came loose. IF the shocks have been replaced before it is possible.
