Torque Arm Kits

I am looking to improve the suspension on my car. I was looking at a few options in with the torque arm.

I was originally going for the S&W bolt-in Subframe and torque arm kit because it made the most sense to me, it seemed like a great idea mounting the front of the torque arm to the frame rather than straining the tranny and mount with more forces. Reading all the threads about the cross member on that kit being as low as it is made me hold off and investigate more alternatives.

I have seen two other kits that relocate the front torque arm mount off of the tranny to a new cross member behind the trans., UMI and Global West both make these kits. Neither kit includes or connects there new cross member to the subframe. The Global West kit looks as if it mounts the torque arm to a new piece that runs parralel to the torque arm, the rear of the new piece mounts to the floor boards?? I'm a little hesitant on mounting the torque arm to the floor, I wanted to take the flex out of the body... I have not seen UMI's kit installed.

Does any one have either of these torque arm kits?

Pictures of the UMI kit would be HUGE.

Any first hand feed back of advantages/disadvantages, etc., would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Torque Arm Kits

I have the Jegs arm and really like it, it does mount to the floor though. No complaints (is a bit noisier) and I am very happy with the mount off the tranny.

For any fears about flex with it I would contact IHI on the board here, I am pretty sure he has one and cuts some very mean tire lifting 60 footers with it.. If there are any flex or durability troubles with it he would of found them.

as to the other brands I can't speak to though I am sure others will.

Re: Torque Arm Kits

IMO the best I have used/seen is th BMR X-treme. It mounts to the SFC and also welds to floor ribs. I like it cuz it is lighter smaller and strong as hell. Removed the stress on the trans case. Leaves lots of room for trans,t-cross brace, DSL. With good SFC,angled bracing to the trans frame and the tube bar between the SFC in the rear. It realy ties in the car.

I am going to run one on my 3rd gen!

Re: Torque Arm Kits

Spohn's mounts onto a replacement tranny crossmember. You take your old one out, install, badabing.

There seems to be an issue with where the rod end mounts on the crossmember though. People have posted solutions.
