flared power steering lines on my 82 ??
ok i was putting a power steering pump on the 82 just now and went to the trouble to swap the outlet pump fitting to an O-ring type one and well i looked in the fitting outlets of the steering box and its flared and not the 80 andlater o ring type ?
what the heck ?
its box #7826692
i have never seen an 80-later GM with anything except O ring type and i have owned and worked on a billion cars trucks vans over the years
very odd !??
help ?
now i gotta start all over again dammit
what a PITA
also, i know that 79 and older are probably SAE fitting threads
i was reading this thread and they say that these '80's ones are metric threaded ??!

Re: flared power steering lines on my 82 ??
well i happened to come across an old basic water pump cradle type pump and lines setup that i had in my parts stash -and it mounted pretty well and the lines clear everything pretty well as well
i still would like to learn about this 80 and later flared end fitting deal, why an 80 and up would have flared fittings, when none are supposed to
hmm
thanks

Randy
I just took a look in the 82 Camaro Factory assembly manual. All the power steering fittings shown are flared nuts. I have no idea if they are SAE or metric though.
