Need to know the name of this part.

Sup I have this nasty creeking noise whenever I turn the wheel when driving slow coming from the front driver side shock. My pops said it could either be that the shock is bad or it's the part that mounts to the top of the shock.

I need to know what the name of the part is that mounts to the top of the shock. The noise is very annoying. It kinda sounds like the door that creeks in the beginning of Thriller lol.

Thanks.

Re: Need to know the name of this part.

It's unlikely the strut mount by itself. The strut mount has a bearing in it that allows the strut rod to spin, but the strut rod should also spin freely in the strut. You should be able to reach up above the wheel (may need to jack the car up an inch or so) and spin the rod freely by hand-it's the shiny piece that comes up out of the strut body.

Anyway- jack up that side of the car at the a-arm, keeping the suspension loaded but tire off the ground. Make sure the jack is not pressing against the ball joint. Pop the tie-rod loose from the spindle allowing the wheel to turn without moving the other wheel. Listen and feel for your squeak. If it squeaks remove the three strut mount bolts freeing the strut mount. You may have to have someone hold the strut mount while you turn the tire again, letting the strut mount turn with it. If it squeaks without the strut rod or mount bearing spinning the probs in your ball joint.

Mark where the mount was so it can be reinstalled in the same position.
