Need new struts, shocks, and springs....
Need new struts, shocks, and springs....
Bought a 139k mile Camaro RS w/ 305 this weekend and the suspension is very tired. Can anyone refer me to a place that sells these parts for a reasonable price. I'm not looking for anything special just new parts that will restore a more firm, stable ride as opposed to the boat on water feel it has right now. It's also dragging it's *** compared to the front. SLP used to sell take off suspension bits for the 4th gens for real cheap and the parts were all new basically. Anything like that for 3rd gens anymore? Unlikely I'm sure.
Oh yeah any advice on ball joints? The steering is very vague. I presume the ball joints are totally shot also.
Thanks.

www.tirerack.com has the best prices i've seen for some of those suspension components you need. Also check out www.autopartswarehouse.com , they got good prices and free shipping if you buy over 50 bucks of crap.
Re: Need new struts, shocks, and springs....
get your self a set of KYB GRs-2 all around for
150$ at summitracing.com
Get new MOOG Swaybar links, another cheap part
Get new moog springs, at least rears (easy to change)
grease up all the zerks in the front, check your tie rod ends for the steering slop, and the idler arm.
Replace busings as needed.

Not that its a heck of a lot but I'd give you my set of stock ws6 springs if you like. You gave me a helluva deal on those vette wagon wheels awhile ago so I'd be happy to return the favor.
For the steering stuff I'd actually hit up autozone locally. They've got moog stuff in stock a lot of times. Other than that ACDelco has always done me well. Balljoints are probably worn but I'd keep my eye on the rest of the suspension first (tie rods, centerlink, etc).
I can get ahold of ACDelco stuff rediculously cheap because I work for a stealership in Tacoma.

Damn. Didn't try Summit or Jeg's yet. Oddly enough I wound up settling on the KYB's just from a different vendor. Going to have to redo all my pricing tomorrow morning. Who woulda thunk shopping can be such hard work. Maybe I should ask my wife for tips.
The suspension in the 3rd gen looks easier to replace than in a 4th gen. At least the front does since the spring is not compressed on the strut.
The steering is really sloppy. The steering wheel can be turned way to far before the car begins to turn. Will probably end up with the Spohn front end kit unless iI can source the individual parts cheaper.

Small world. I think i saw you briefly at the last dyno day at Turbo tech right before I left.
Are you talking about 4th gen WS6 springs or 3rd gen. Doesn't look like the 4th gen springs will fit plus i'm sure the spring rates are off. The reason I ask is I'm not sure if there were 3rd gen WS6's. Might have to take you up on the offer.
Yeah the steering linkages etc...is all badly worn. The steering is very sloppy like I just mentioned above. I'll tackle that after doing Springs, struts, shocks, and brake pads.
Does AC Delco make the coolant fan switch for the 305 TBI motor. I just replaced the original one with a new one from Schucks but the connector that pugs into it is missing. The bare pin is all that is left so I will need to either splice on a new connector or replace that part of the wiring back to where it plugs into the harness. I have a post in the Tech section describing what I found and did to get the fan to work in the mean time.
