YAST - Yet Another Spring Thred

I need some help with my options for springs.

I’ve got an Energy Suspension polyurethane kit, new KYB Gas-a-just shocks and new ball joints waiting to be installed. The car is a 91 RS with a 305 (and maybe next year the 383 I’m working on), T-top. I’m planning on buying a pair of welded SFC and replace the sway bars and springs.

I use my car mostly for driving around and having some fun with it going around corners. Autocross would be very limited (once a year maybe) so it’s mostly for my own pleasure. I want the car handle well but it doesn’t have to be like super car. The roads I drive one are usually OK and ride quality is important but not extremely important. I want to keep the stock height. I’m already scraping all speed bumps with the air dam. I believe all suspension parts have never been replaced hence my attempt to improve the handling.

My question is what rate springs should I buy and based on spring rate what sway bars should I get?

I’ve searched the forum and my take on this so far is that I can go with 700-720 lbs/in springs in the front and no idea what I should use in the back. For a rate of 7xx lbs/in I can go with 36/24mm sway bars or maybe keep the stock ones, is this correct, should I get the 36/24 or should I keep the stock ones?

Any recommendations/advice (including places to buy) are welcome.

Thanks

D.

Re: YAST - Yet Another Spring Thred

You airdamn scrapes now because you old springs are worn out. I replaced mine with Eibach Prokit and Koni Yellows, airdamn hasn't scraped in a long time. So just replacing your old worn out springs with a new set (even Prokit) will for the most part, stop the airdamn from scraping.

I also upgraded the sway bars to 36/24 combo, I like it a lot.

I also suggest SFCs as the the first thing you do.

You can get the IROC springs from Moog that are in the range that you want. These would keep the ride height stock but improve handling without too much of a ride comfort sacrifice.
I've got the same set-up as krisb, and my air dam scrapes alot...but that probably owes to the local terrain and the fact I have none of the spring isolators left on the car.
SFCs/new bushings 1st!

That sounds like a good plan. Do you know any good places to buy the springs?

Re: YAST - Yet Another Spring Thred

Ist off- return those shocks. you are not going to be able to control the chassis with those crappy things, especially if you plan on also increasing the spring rates.

If you are budget minded, your VERY BEST option is to return EVEERYTHING you bought and simply buy some Koni yellows.

I 100% promise you if you took two identical cars like yours, one with the options you are doing, and the other with my suggestion of KONI yellows, mine would driver better on the streets for daily handling, AND mine would win on an autocross course.

Good luck.

ps- you are very likely scrapping speedbumps at stock hieght NOT becuase of worn springs, BUT because of bad shocks and the nose diving and bouncing.

Haha, I can't return anything. I got the stuff from Summit last year and never had a chance to do the work. Life got in the way.
Oh well, maybe next time I do my front end I buy the KONI.
