New here have Questions

Just became a third gen owner !!! I bought an 1991 vert, like the car very well and have already started the mods. My question to start with is, how good can I make this car handle and not destroy it (body twist and rattles).
I had a 2000 SS with every suspension piece that LG motorsports offerd and would like to get this car in that range of handling???????? Possible??

Thanks
Collier

Read here.
I would reccomend getting SFCs, Wonder bar, and possibly a STB after checking/replacing bushings but before any other mods. Get the car as rigid as possible before modifying the suspension. Also, don't forget to upgrade at least your brake pads if you're going to be going faster around the twisties!

Re: New here have Questions

In 1987, the IROC-Z cars were able to pull 0.88 lateral G's right off the assembly line with the stock alignment settings and bone stock parts. Now I'm not sure what the 4th gens were capable of, but that is very very good considering the third gens are of the uni-body breed. Since you car is a convertible, it will be no where near as stiff as a hardtop or even a T-top, but it should still be able to corner with the best of them.

Now with the much appreciated aftermarket support for these cars and the more efficient parts of today, these cars should be able to pull about 1G in street form. Bolt on some race rubber, and a properly set up 3rd gen will make many "super" cars break a sweat.

I'm sure you know what kind of stuff should be replaced and/or added if you were working on your SS; so the question is mainly what companies should you look to for parts. You can click the items in my sig to know what I purchased and from whom I purchased it. That should get you started and give some ideas of where to begin. If you provide more detail on what the car will be used for, then we will provide you with a more appropriate list.

Mike

PS - If you need a 36mm front swaybar... I have one for sale.
