Stock Stabilizer Bar Dimensions?

My 84 SE V6 came with a 1.25" stabilizer bar up front and a 1" bar out back.

Conventional wisdom tells me these are not stock bars. Are they?

I have 2 second gen Firebirds and they came with different sized bars. I do not need to be told that GM put different bars on different models of a particular car.

Re: Stock Stabilizer Bar Dimensions?

"Level II" suspension was standard on the '82-84 Firebird S/E and Trans Am. It used 30mm front and 12mm rear sway bars. If "Level III" AKA WS6 suspension was optioned the sizes increased to 32mm/18mm with a V6 or 32mm/21mm with a V8 engine.

Re: Stock Stabilizer Bar Dimensions?

Thanks, Dens!

Now we're getting somewhere.

I just came back from under the car and I've got 32 mm front and 26 mm rear.

BTW, nice T/A. Now that I have a real 71 Formula 400, I'm planning to build the 70 Esprit/Formuloid into a T/A clone. (Apologies to moderators for going off-generation.)

I guess the 26 mm rear bar will help kill some of the understeer when I drop in the SBC. After doing quite a bit of research on improving V6 performance, the bottom line of the V8 conversion column was more attractive (cheaper.)

Re: Stock Stabilizer Bar Dimensions?

The combos for sway bars:

28mm/none base 4 cylinder
30mm/18mm base 6 cylinder
32mm/18mm F41 typically
32mm/21mm up to 1987 Z28
34mm/24mm IROC
36mm/25mm WS6

I'm sure there were other combos for special editions and such...
