Rear Suspension 1986 Z
Bought a 86Z and started changing out basic things such as oil/filters/brakes etc... jacked the car up about 4 feet to work the brakes (found a hole in theline under the drivers seat) and notice rust from rear bumper area (rusted absorbsion bar) well before you know it I have the rear end remove the gas tank out and everything from the rear seats back removed... I am going to use Rust Bullet and to clean everything up.
My question is what should I use to replace the shocks/sway bars and bushings that are all dried out and used up? Should I replace the stock torsion bars? I was going to clean and paint. I was going to buy a kit to do the suspension and cant seem to find one. Do I use Bilsteen shocks with performance techniques sway bars? What is the best set up for a good handling package. I am running a straight factory 305 but would like to eventually tweek that too. Any help? Planet Frank

Re: Rear Suspension 1986 Z
Well considering these cars don't have torsen bars...no. i would recomend tubular lower control arms, if your stock ride height the stock panhard will do fine and the stock torque arm is ok with a 305. bilsteins are nice but you dont need a highdollar shock to make the car handle. i used monroe's on my maro and it handled great with all polyurethane bushings and Lakewood LCA's. the iroc's came with good sway bars so just add new bushings and endlinks and go hit the twisties!
