Autozone performance AGR steering gear

Is anyone using this. It seems like a good price, its a little heavier than the stock one. I put in a reman one 20k miles ago and its gotten play and I just can't seem to adjust it out. This time I want a new one. the 12.1 ratio should be 2.5 turns lock to lock right?

Hopefully this link works, if not you may have to select your car first.

Re: Autozone performance AGR steering gear

i ordered my AGR unit from AGR last week, the list price was $398 but i got it for $320. i placed a custom order. when i spoke with Larry, from Agr, he advissed me about different ways that the boxes can be setup, not all of the 225153 AGR boxes are the same, some are set up for little to no steering effort, not good, unless your car is just a cruiser than it's the way to go, but for handling they need to be setup up properly, odds are the one from autozone isn't the best

Re: Autozone performance AGR steering gear

It is just a crusier but I do like to feel the road and have feedback in the steering. Since the factory is cast iron and this is aluminum I think I would think it would weigh less, maybe the shipping weights are just off on their site.

I tried again adjusting the play out and now the thing puts center at the top of the hill instead of the bottom, so you have to fight keeping it centered.

Can the setup be changed on the box if I don't like the default settings?

What ratio did you get and did they tell you how many turns lock to lock?

Re: Autozone performance AGR steering gear

yes i'm getting the pump too, $465 shipped for everything, it's listed as 12.1 to 1, but i;ve also seen it listed as 12.7 to 1, i didn't ask about the turns, lock to lock. larry, at agr said it was a 12.1 ratio. mine is gettiing a .230 T-bar installed for more rooad feel, i read some where that the factory boxes that have the good feel to them have the .224-.225 t-bar installed the other boxes varied from .185-.210....... Larry at AGR said that with a .185 t-bar installed you can turn the wheel with 1 finger, way tooo easy
