This is the only complete piece I've ever coem across. I have no idea on the quality, but I'm guessing it's Chinese.

I have a couple of the rag joints already, but there is a flexible union at the top, and the rubber boot is tore up....Not sure how important that is, but I am doing the "Shotgun" aproach to the front end...If it is there, replace it...LOL.....Thanks for the replys guys...

Re: Steering shaft???

Also do a search for a thread on "astro van shaft." If you can do some mild fabbing this is another alternative that is better then a replacement OEM set up.

Re: Steering shaft???

I bought the one off ebay, works great. The box said made in Australia. Based of the quality it maybe a Holden part (GM Australia), or a really nice asian part. I was impressed. I believe they sell the exact same one at Yearone for more $.

Until you're in a front end collision.

Oh no, not again. Cut me a break. A properly set up Astro Van shaft has a collapsing slip joint. Just like the OEM one in our f-body's.

See, if you have ever LOOKED at an Astro Van shaft, THEY HAVE A SLIP JOINT. AND, THIS SLIP JOINT IS USED WHEN MODIFIED FOR AN F-BODY.

Re: Steering shaft???

You can use whatever you like. I've seen some pretty unusual Astro Van set ups here that I would never put on my car. Notice you use the phrase "Properly set up." Thats not always the case in my opinion.

So are you now saying that a "properly set up" intermediate shaft using Astro Vans parts are OK? Even in a front end collision?

Rather rude of you to assssuuuume that I was one of those that did hack jobs...

I don't know. I don't have the technical expertice to say that an Astro Van steering shaft is going to have the same crash safety characteristics as the designed part.

But I also don't see how you can say that it's better that an OEM replacement.

Sorry you took it that way. I was speaking in general terms. I didn't mean it the way you read it, just as I'm sure you weren’t being rude when you questioned whether I'd ever LOOKED at an Astro Van shaft. Let's Chalk it up to the impersonal nature of internet message boards.
