refinishing rims
refinishing rims
I am refinishing a set of 4th gen 5 spoke rims. I am totally striping the current paint off and repainting them myself. I am going with a high heat resistant paint and I was planning on doing several coats. Has anyone done anything along these lines before??? Any tips?

Re: refinishing rims
I did on a set of '86 iroc wheel....I polished out part of the spokes and the rest I painted black to match the car color. I sanded it down good...cleaned it of course...the I used I believe a high temp primer (1 layer), a high temp color (black on mine)2-3 layers, and then a high temp clear coat (2-3 layers)....I used the caliper spray paint that you should be able to get at a local parts store....it was high temp, ceramic, and resistant to brake dust (a must)...anyway the wheels turned out perfect...

Re: refinishing rims
I did my wheels with Duplicolor wheel paint. I used their etching primer for the primer after sanding with 300 then cleaning alooot. Then about 4-5 coats of silver and 3-4 coats of clear. Here's how they turned out:
