Springs ?

Are the rear springs suppose to be softer to squat/load, and the front springs stiffer to raise the front end up quicker for a better launch?

Re: Springs ?

you have it backwards.

the front springs/shock need to be light/soft so that it raises and transfers weight. Not too much though.

the rear does not want to squat much, if any

Re: Springs ?

Interesting, as I noticed a few people on here complaining that their new springs in the front raise the front end up on there cars. So I figured it was a stiffer spring up front. I then figured it must be softer at the rear. I have even done the same with Moroso trick springs in the front that wre cut 1", which leveled my car out. Where as before it was a little lower up front.

Re: Springs ?

its very old school but but 4 50lb bags of concrete mix in the back, provided you got the hp for it.
and we used to have cars with the front higher than the rear as part of home town weight transfer. dont know if it really worked but it was the style for a while - back in 60-65 or so.

Re: Springs ?

Although I have seen a few cars on the road with the front end higher, most are lower in the front. Even the auto manufacturers who produce sports cars have the front end lower. And I'm sure theres no difference in cost. So I'm even more confused. I know putting weight in the rear of a say a camaro in the winter helps with traction.

Re: Springs ?

post #2 has the answer you are looking for, no need to be confused

with proper weight transfer, the front will still raise irregardless if the front is lower or higher than the rear at a standstill

Re: Springs ?

if u look at spring rates for drag springs... u'll notice that the springs have lower softer rates that allow the front to raise fast transfering the weight to the rear tires. the springs have lower rates and are taller springs as well... this makes up for the softer rate... the fender gap will increase in the front so it will look raised.

i would look into drag shocks as well they help alot. lakewood has some good ones.
