J&M strut mounts
Hi, I did post over in aftermarket products, but didn't get a response and I know there are some guys using these mounts on here
I'm finally about to put the J&M strut mounts in (along with koni's, pro-kit, spohn panhard/rear lca's), but one thing I've been wondering for a while, the bearings on the mounts are as stiff as they come. To move them at all I had to brace them in a vice (with tubular piping each side to grip the inner ring of the bearing), then turn the large black surround. Trying to turn them using my finger just about breaks a knuckle, but they don't budge at all. The bearings on the old mounts which have just come off will turn freely with my finger.
Are they meant to be this stiff?

Your old mounts which are probably the stock ones from factory are obviously worn out (not worn badly, but enough to allow give), thus allowing them to easily move.
New mounts WILL be stiffer but realize the shock sits in there and the force of a car is a lot more than the force of your finger.
Call J&M and ask, a simple 30 second call will figure it out.
Re: J&M strut mounts
yes they are supposed to be that stiff ur problem is that you don't have enough leverage to move then with your finger, the strut is about 2' long, ur finger 2" they will move/work fine when insalledin the car
just to warn you, i got no instructions what so ever with theese, and the factory dust covers that go around the struts polished shaft won't fit inside of the J&M mounts

Re: J&M strut mounts
Maybe my fingers are stronger then yours, but I was able to move them by sticking my index finger in them and turning it with my left hand (I'm right handed). They should be difficult to move, but it wasn't really that painful for my finger when I was moving mine. Then again, I don't want to be doing that all day either.
Like people said, they don't come with directions. If you need help with how the bolts and washers and what not go on, just ask. If I look around I may even be able to find what the recommended torque specs are for the bolts on the extra inner adjusted. Should I look?
You'll love that setup if your car is just a weekend warrior. I use my car for daily driving (~3k miles/year), and I do a ton of autocrossing (12+ each year) and wish my front spring rates were a little higher then what the Pro-Kit is. However, each person has their own ideal setup. Enjoy it!
