A little play in steering

Ok, heres the thing. My car has a little play in the steering YOu can turn it side to side about 20 degrees each way verfore it actually starts to turn the car. I failed inspection for it and now ineed to get it fixed. Do any of ou know what it might be or how to fix it.

Jason,it sounds like to me that you may have a idler arm that is worn out.Get someone to turn the steering wheel back and forth while you check the idler arm for play. That would be the first place I look.If you replace it don't get the el chepo auto zone/discount part, get a Moog. It's about $69.00

I agree... I have the Moog idler arm on my car. Its much beefer part than the stock one. Also your gear box could be worn. You might want to invest in a new one. Like Superman said have someone turn the wheel back and forth. While you look at the whole setup from the gear to the tierod ends. If the tierods twist in your hands easy they should be replaced.

Could be something as simple as a worn ragjoint.

Look for a crack in the frame just in front of the power steering box. That will give a lot of play. Been there, done that.
