Frame twist when T-Tops are off? Traction Bars? Subframe Connectors?
Frame twist when T-Tops are off? Traction Bars? Subframe Connectors?
I have a 1987 GTA, w/T-Tops. It's a 350 5-speed, runs about a 13.5 1/4 mile (so i was told when i bought it) i know he put the 350 in it because my friend is his friend but anyway i was told that when you have the T-Tops off your frame twists and then your T-Tops won't go back correct. I was also told Subframe connectors and traction bars will prevent this from happening. but i'm told SSM bars and connectors are good then i'm told there bad then i was told to buy a competition engineering subframe connector but then i was told not too, HELP!!! Please!
Its a thirdgen. Its a unibody, they flex quite a bit. Regardless if your t-tops are in or not, the chassis' going to flex. The t-tops offer no strength to the body. I wouldn't worry about tweaking the body too much because there are 11 second t-topped thirdgens with bolt in SFCs that are making hundreds of runs down the track and their doors still open. I would add a set of weld in SFC's however. I like the SSMs, and have heard good things about SSPE and they're triangulated as well. Have fun.
Oh, and just to put things into perspective. U know how you park your car on little hills sometimes, well that tweaks the body. And u know how you hit those expansion joints on the highway doing 80 and the car goes bang? That tweaks the body. Basically chassis flex is an inherent design flaw in most heavy unibody cars.
