bilstein strut ?

I'm trying to figure out which bilstein struts I have. I've heard that there are 2 kinds, heavy duty strut and a sport strut. They are black with a blue dust boot and the part number is S36-0201. Will these struts work well with Jamex 1 1/2" lowering springs? Thanks for replies

Also, is there anything else I need when installing the struts and springs? my car has 90,000 miles

According to the Bilstein catalog, there is only one strut model for the 3rd Gen. The difference between the HD and Sport is in the rear shock selection only. As for use with the Jamex springs, I'd say that they'd work but why Jamex with such a wide selection of better springs out there?

Oh, because I got the Jamex springs from a group purchase a while back and haven't had time to put them on. why, do they suck or something?

I don't think that "suck" is the right way to describe them. If you got a good deal on them you might as well go ahead and use them. The only problems with Jamex that I have found: rate differences of up to 16% from front-to-front or rear-to-rear comparisons, cracking in winding at front spring bases after low use times, stack height differences of new springs and corner-to-corner ride height differences as much as 1".

There is only one type of strut. Mine were Yellow bodied. The rears have 2, sport and HD. Sport is for lowered cars, and the shock is 1" shorter then normal. It helps hold the shorter spring in better if the rear axle is fully extended. Mine were yellow with a blue boot.

Hey guys,

How much do these bilsteins run and who's a good supplier? Most importantly, what do you think of them?

Thanks

Bilsteins are a good performance strut/shock. If you want the best, go with KONI, period.

I've never heard this problem with Jamex springs, and we've got several members in our club with them, including Tom Keliher. He's had his for a while with no problems.

Bilsteins are great. MUCH better then my KYBs. Try www.vettebrakes.com or www.carparts.com if you have a coupon.

I got my Bilsteins from Shox.com for about $400 for front and rear for 3rd gens. They run these prices for Third Gen and F-body members.

I got my Sport shocks from carparts.com and the struts from vettebrakes. After shipping, the grand total came to $377.

i have had no problems with my jamex springs at all. i guess the eibachs could be better but them and the hotchkis springs prices are just whacked out.
carparts.com had a 33% off coupon (up to $100 savings) but it ended 10-31. they might still have $50 off a $150+ order.
