Any benefits in using wider tires in back ?
What are the benefits to using wider tires in the rear ? I am getting a set of 18x9.5 C5 wheels and can't decide which tire size to choose. My choices are 265/35 front 285/35 rear , 275/40 front and back or 275/35 front and back.I am considering the 275/40's because I don't like the look of REALLY low profile tires.I realize there is a traction advantage in using a larger footprint in the rear.I'd like to here people's opinions. Thanks

basically wider tires will have a larger contact area. they'll bite more and hold more. but you can get the same results with stickier tires and not as wide.

You dont lose as much as you think with a higher profile, narrower tire because although the footprint is a little narrower, it is also longer. The extra sidewall flex will also increase the footprint. This is often a good way to go for drag racing...autocross/roadracing is a different matter.
These C5 wheels that are 18x9.5. Where are you getting these, are they 18x9.5 both front and rear, and do they require spacers or are they custom built to fit our cars? Also, there are several different C5 styles. Which one are you getting?
