Brake maintnence Question.
Brake maintnence Question.
I have three cars that I Drive on a Semi regular basis, My Camaro, My buddys 86 Z28, and My other friends 78 Vette. ( Yeah, I take it for Granted ).
Anyways, The main Differance I notice Between these three cars Is the brakes. My car has rear drum, The other two have rear disc. When Driving the others I notice a LOT less pedal travel, and signifigantly improved breaking.
What i wanted to Know was, Why Do I have 3 times as Much Pedal travel as both these cars, is possible (Likely Rather, its always possible...) that I have something wrong with My brakes ? Also, the Dramatically imprved braking In the TWo Four wheel disc cars, Is that due Only to the disc/drum differance, Or is it also indicative that My setup Isnt working properly ?
Simplified, My questions are How much pedal travel should I have on a 85 SC rear drum, If not alot, then How Do I correct excessive pedal travel ?
And How big of a Differance in braking would a 86 Z28 4wheel disc Have over me. Alot or just a little ?
Thanks For any Attempts To answer My Semi-Convoluted Question.

if your rear shoes aren't adjusted closely to the drums there would be more distance for them to move, more fluid would have to move to make them work. if your self adjusters are broke or not working could cause this. far as that goes heck and see if your front pads are wore too. if the MC is allowing a little fluid to leak internally past the seals you'd have less braking power also.

Thanks Ede, The front Pads are new. The rears are completely toast, So I guess that has alot to do with it
