Need a posi rear for my V6 bird

I'm swapping in a 3.4 in for my 2.8 so I'll have a little bit more power, I want a posi rear to get the most out of the few new ponies in my car. Dont know anything about rear ends. What would work for my V6? Will a V8 rear off a Trans Am/ Z28 work well? Thanks for the ear guys.

Yeah, a V8 rear would work Just fine.

They are the Same thing, Go Find a Posi rear out of a z28 or TRansam, and Bolt her in

I think the best route for you is to buy a Powertrax street locker which can be bolted into a non-posi rear end such as yours. I don't have one but I have heard only good things about them. The average person can install it in few hours w/o any special tools. You will then have a rear better than a Z28 for $315. A Z28 rear isn't any stronger(no differences) and since you have a V6 your rear end ratio is probably the desireable 3.42:1. This would probably be easier than swapping rears once you have found one out of a Z28.

Another possibility is to buy the take-off posi unti from SLP and swap it into your existing rear end. If your car has a 10-bolt and is from 90 up for sure and maybe 89 up, it will bolt right in and only costs $99.

You really don't want a POSI unit. A locker unit is a much better buy plus you don't fishtail w/ a locker as you would w/ a POSI unit.
Also you would not want a rear end out of a Z28 or T/A. Their gearing is way different. We have lower gearing in our V6's than the V8's do. We have 3.42 gears while the V8's have like a 2.72 or something like that. While your at it install an aluminum drive shaft. It will help performance wise as well.

I dunno, i kinda like the fishtailing with a long wheelbase. I checked out the Powertrax street locker on their website and it seems they have 2 types for the 90's. One they make the other they don't. So which do i have in a 91 firebird?. I counted the rotation of the wheels to the drive shaft and do have 342's in it. I like the idea of no special tools, but which rear end do i have?
