ok, my mechanic said my rear end is all chewed up, so he's looking in the yards for a new rear-end, i said how about 3 somethings gears, cause i have 2.73s in my iroc. well he said if i go to bigger gears in my iroc it will screw up my computer, is that true? i want to get the bigger gears, but i dont want to have to get a custom chip. also can i get posi, without messing up the computer? what other options do i have?

it won't mess up your computer at all. it will make you speedo way wrong if you dont get a drive correction gear. go to www.slpeng.com they have 4th gen take out posi units for $100 and gears for about $175. they will fit any later ( i think 87-present, check to make sure) 10 bolt rear.
they also sell the dana44 unit that i use in their closeouts section, 3.54 gears, complete bolt in unit, it's very strong. you will need to use disc brakes or find chrysler corp/jeep drum brake set up.

I just decided to get a 91 3.42 rearend that's none locking and the put in a powertrax unit. As far as the speedo, just change the little plastic gear in the back of the tranny. Isn't that rightr gentlemen? As you can see I haven't corrected that yet. I got the rear for $100 and close to $400 on the locker... but that's how much a posi rearend was going to cost me...and I have a new locker... and can replace the gear later if I have too.
