Rear discs
Yes, on all years I belive.
The general concensus is that the pre-89 disks were sub-par. In 89 the rear calipers were upgraded to PBR aluminum, and the stopping power increased too. I may be wrong though.
If you want a strong rear, go with a Borg-Waner 9-bolt, otherwise go with the GM 7.5" 10-bolt rear, they should all have the same brakes.
Another alternative, and a fairly popular one is a 4thgen rear, the brake lines are a bit tricky (read the tech article) and your tires will stick out about even with upper fender lip. The 4thgen rear is wider, but it has an upgraded posi.

I always thought rear disc's were an option, not stock ... unless that's what you meant!

Our 83Z has the rear disc brakes, but I've never even seen them on another 3rd gen. Z or TA in the junk yards, so they probably aren't all that common.
