Strut Tower Bearing

Hi guys. How do I check to see if the strut tower bearring is going bad?

Engine: 3.1...not hardly stock
Transmission: 700r4....not stock either
Axle/Gears: 3.73

pop the plastic cap off the top and watch it while you push side to side on the car. you'll probably see it move. if its originial, its probably bad. aftermarket spherical bearing mount is the way to go!

FYI if you should replace: There are two types of strut mount retainers, 82-86 and 87-92. New strut mounts will only fit 82-86 cars if the 87-92 three-stud retainer is used. GM has discontinued one side, perhaps both by now, so the bone yards are the only answer--or Spohn.

Nice. Thanks guys for the info. Ima pop the top to see if it'll flop side to side. Luckly I got an 86 IROC. Agian thanks guys.

Remember that if you replace the mounts in your 86, you'll need the 87+ retainers.
