I just called the Chevy Dealer and they informed me I would be paying $291 apiece for new rear calipers. This is not even remotely possible for me but I need back brakes. Suggestions for a good rebuild kit or something.....

Check any parts store, you should be able to get a remanufactured loaded caliper for I'd guess $80 to $120 depending what kind of pads it comes with, plus probably a $50 refundable core charge.

86 Trans Am 355 TPI Rebuilt 700R4 with Corvette servo, modified valve body, and a B&M Torque Converter (2000 rpm stall w/ lock up), 87 350 block bored .30 with new crank. Reworked 305 heads with 3-angle valve job. Unless the calipers are permanently damaged in some way, you don't need to purchase new or rebuilt ones.

Just buy a "rebuild-kit" from your local Chevy/Pontiac dealer like I did. It sure was a lot cheaper than buying new/rebuilt ones.

Interestingly enough, the (smaller) rear brake pads cost more $$$ than the (larger) front brake pads. You know, like nearly twice as much $$$ for nearly half the surface area.

I am lucky enough to have a friend that works for a chevy dealership in the parts deparment. He is getting me a set of fully loaded calipers for $40 each. He may be working some kind of magic and I am smart enough not to ask how he is doing it. Or he could be the devil.
