with the relative cheapness of aftermarket drop springs, such as those from summit, id suggest replacing them rather than cutting. Besides, its hard to cut each one identically, and you will have uneven ride height, resulting in alignment angle changes. hopefully you were going to align this anyway
hmm...well i was just trying to lower my car the cheapest way possible.. but i understand what your saying..

cut them, the drop springs are pretty crappy too, my eibach 2' drop springs didn't drop worth a crap, I cut the stock coils on my 82 trans am, much cheaper and much better results
cut half a coil for starters
cut half a coil for starters
alright..from the top or the bottom?
should i put the springs in a bucket of water to control the heat?
plasma cutter okay?

oh and i have kyb gr2 shocks/struts, strut tower brace and a wonder bar if that makes any difference.
Re: Cutting my GTA stock springs? help..
The rears you have to cut from the top side, the bottom end has a pigtail (its smaller) and you need that on there. The fronts... take your pick. I'd start with a half a coil up front, the rear you can take more off but may not hurt to start small because those are really easy to R+R to get exactly the height you want.
i think the front springs are ground flat on the top, so you would want to cut the bottom of those springs.

When I cut some WS6 springs for an RS years ago, I did 1/2 coil up front, 3/4 coil rear/ The result was pretty good, bu I also wish it had been a little lower.3/4 front, 1 coil rear might have been good, but you certainly can't go backwards.
And I set my coils in a bucket of water with only the tops sticking out, to dissipate the heat. Was it REALLY needed? Maybe. But certainly can't hurt either. And I used a 4" grinder to cut mine, with a 1/4" thick grinder wheel. If I have had a 1/8" wheel, I woulda tried that, but then you gotta make sure you cut STRAIGHT & not flex the disc. It would really suck to have a 3000rpm disc come apart & the flying shrapnel find you!

If you want the car level, got a bit more in the rear. If you want it is sit like stock, higher in the rear, cut the same amount.
R&R usually means Remove & Replace. Where'd you see R&R?

As Pablo said, no plasma or cutting torch, too much heat. Best to use an abrasive type cutter. Dean
so a cut off wheel?? (havent lookd at the thread yet, i will right now)
i like the way that looks Dean.
