Re: Ebay Front End Kit??? anyone?
I bought one of those kits and it didn't last very long. I'm replacing it now with moog part's.

You can buy Moog parts at pretty much any auto parts store (I.E. Napa, Checker/O'Reily, Autozone..) Don't think they do a "package" though.
Spohn makes parts too, I've heard good things: http://www.spohn.net/shop/1982-1992-...sion-Steering/

Re: Ebay Front End Kit??? anyone?
I have a mix of Moog and Spohn parts... I like the Spohn parts because they are zinc coated and the tie rods were easier to get threaded into the tie rod adjusters than the Moogs were. Also, with the Spohn tie rods and adjusters I am able turn the adjusters by hand very easily.

You probably won't need to replace the pitman arm though, if that was listed as a part needing to be replaced in the sticky

Re: Ebay Front End Kit??? anyone?
If you've looked at it, it's really very very solid, and it's not a "wear" part like many of the other front end parts (Like ball joints and such) are.

Re: Ebay Front End Kit??? anyone?
what he said. the pitman arm is a not wear item, there are no joints or anything on it. Only time to replace it would be if the arm is damaged from an accident or somebody cutting it for whatever reason.

Re: Ebay Front End Kit??? anyone?
The pitman arm is on the driver's side, it's the arm thing that transfers movement from the steering box to the center link

Re: Ebay Front End Kit??? anyone?
Ouch, that sucks. I doubt the pitman arm itself was bent up though, the "weak links" in the steering system are gonna get mangled up before it does. Post a pic of it if you can, but I'd bet the pitman arm is alright

Re: Ebay Front End Kit??? anyone?
Unless you have actual bad parts, there might not be a need to replace the whole system. You might just need one adjuster or something, if it stripped it out when it shifted the alignment.

If you want to throw a full kit into it, no reason not to. Those ball joints though? Rent the tool. You may think you can do it with a vice and a big hammer.. but rent the tool.

Yeah, i had to replace the idler arm and center link on my previous bird. It wasn't too tough, did it myself, and got the alignment really close with thread counting and careful measuring of the tires.

Re: Ebay Front End Kit??? anyone?
No I was mistaken ebay one is cheap china stuff.
I am just going to order from spohn or oreilly or amazon for the cheapest moog stuff.
Anything other than moog just isnt durable.

Re: Ebay Front End Kit??? anyone?
I tightened my steering box up and that made a world of diffrence car has 144k miles on it but it was driven easy. I still plan on changing my idler, and my center link, but the rest can wait for 20-50k more miles.

Re: Ebay Front End Kit??? anyone?
There is a big nut right below the rag joint loosen that then take a spanner wrench or small screwdriver and tighten to 20 ft lbs or approximate then back out 1/2 inch then tighten down locknut. Its a huge nut on the box and you will see little divets. Let me put it this way before i tightened mine up it was sloppier than a cheap yeah. Now its firm and crisp.
Now go down to the one that has the allen head and bolt. Loosen the bolt 4-5 turns turn the allen head all the way in. Make sure the wheels are straight now tighten it till it stops then back out 1/4 to 1/2 a turn. And recheck.
Bingo alot better.
Above worked for me. Yeah your supposed to take out the box.
