Aluminum Drum Questions
According to my RPO code I have aluminum drums. I need to redo my brakes all the way around and I was just going to get all new rotors and drums to go with the shoes, pads and stuff. First thing is that I can't find a parts store that can get me the aluminum drums. I am also at the understanding that I cannot use metalic shoes with the aluminum drums, is this true and if so, what is the best to use? Is there a performance difference between aluminum and cast iron drums?
Thanks,
Mark

I have never heard of the metalic shoes not being made for the aluminum drums.. I hope thats not the case, i think i have that combo!
Aluminum drums a quite a bit lighter than the steel ones, therefore less rotating mass and quicker accel/decel. I don't think that you can get them new any more, i think they are discontinued. Why don't you just get them skimmed, or are they too far gone?
The only down side to them is that they tend to warp easily. But they do cool more quickly. If its a daily driver with no real racing go with the steel, you won't notice the difference, i know i didn't.

Thanks for your input! I haven't measured them yet, I guess if I can't get them anymore I'll just get the cast ones. I think I'll go thru the junk yards first. I don't know that I like that warping thing though.
