Difference between convertible and hardtop chassis?

I was just wondering why there are some suspension parts made specifically for convertibles. What are the differences in the chasis, besides the obvious? Will some headers work with the hardtop and not the convertible?

Only difference I could see on my Convertible is the 2 steel beams they ran along the rocker for chassis support. My 3" exhaust ran fine not even close to anything.

Convertibles have a formed sheet metal reinforcement riveted just behind the lower ground effects (in fact they have to trim the back side of the gfx to fit them in). This is where MOST brands of SFC's mount. Only two brands will work (so far). Alston's are what I have. They are sold on the Internet either directly from Alston or from Internet Racers Supply (listed as their "Terminator" series). http://www.racenet.net/. Unfortunately they have dropped the thirdgen ones from their online catalog. Call them. A local Member recently ordered a set and found out that Alston is doing a production run for Thirdgen's. The other brand that I hear of working is from Kenny Brown. http://www.kennybrown.com/home.html. PS: I plan to make SFC's for convertibles in the future as well (hence my prior reference to "so far"). My newly formed (and soon to open for business) company is called Top-Down Solutions (626)369-0040. Good luck, Lon. 8^)
