Cryo treated brake rotors?
Cryo treated brake rotors?
I spent yesterday at Buttonwillow raceway and was pretty hard on the brakes of course. The rotors were in excellent condition the day before, but after racing they are severely chewed up. There are several strips where it looks like sections of metal were simply torn off the rotor. I've hear cryo-treated rotors are much less likely to do that. Where can I get some, and how much do they usually cost?
I don't believe cryo treating you rotors will do any good. By cryo treating the metal is cooled to almost absolute zero. This alows the molecules to become evenly spaced and creates a stronger bond. The heat your rotors will see will instantly destroy this perfect bond. Your better off looking for some high quality rotors.
Hmm, I suppose if it only reduces wear and it costs the same as a whole new set I might as well go with the whole new set. I'll be making a couple of changes to the brkes anyways before next time at the track. I'll install brake cooling ducts, replace the Valvoline synthetic brake fluid with the Motul fluid the instructors recommended (they're all racers themselves and said that was the best by far), and getting a set of Hawk Blue pads for use on the track.

Goto ws6.com he has done the treatment and came up with some interesting results. On top of that, its an awsome site.
I was directed to Diversified Cryogenics site by Donnybrooke Racing: http://www.frozenrotors.com/
They highly recommended freezing the rotors if participating in road racing events.
