For all those with "wandering" steering

I had the same problem as others on the board with the car wandering from side-to-side especially at higher speeds. I thought I needed a front-end rebuild or steering box, but my mechanic said it was all fine. Sure enough, I got new front TIRES today and it is completely gone. Maybe this is obvious, but don't underestimate the small stuff. BTW- my old tires looked like drag slicks.

Well, my problem got worse when I upgraded from the 14 inch wheels to the 16x8 IROCs (my fronts have 225/50/16's and the rear 245/50/16's). The wandering is caused by wide tires. (Can you imagine how bad the Viper tracks?)

What kind of tires and size did you change to?

I have the stock Formula wheels-16"x8" and put OEM 245/50ZR16's on them (BFG G-force KDWS). There is of course more wandering on a wider tire then on, say, my Ford Taurus. But the problem before I got the tires on was like a violent move side-to side that was a constant series of corrections. I mean I musta looked like a drunk driver. My brother's 87' TA had the same problem, and his was the center link. I guess I was luckier.

My 87 formula with 245/50r16s. does this too. But only in town at slow speeds and on worn roads. Out on the highway I cant feel it at all. Seems the faster you go the more stable it feels. Replaced struts, checked out the whole front end, and had it aligned. Struts seemed to help but after a couple of weeks went back to the same.

Heard this might be inherant on vehicles with the handling package. Something about different alignment specs.
