89-92 rear calipers on a 86 iroc...rear disc

Hello, i heard the 89 and up rear brake calipers are better than the 88 and below. how hard is it to switch to the 89 and up? will i have to do any mods? or will they just bolt up? thanks, tom...i would also like to have a parking brake when finished!

Do a search on this subject,1LE brake upgrade or something to that nature.Everything you need is on here,if not give me a day or two to get all the numbers you need from my swap and I'll get them to you.

I don't think the 89-92 rear disc setup is a direct bolt on to a drum rear. The axles are different on the disc rear axle. The easy way woul be to get a whole disc rear.

89-92 have the PBR caliper setup. It is MUCH better than the 88 and below version.

PBR is the company that made them. They're Australian I believe.

You will have the parking brake, if you have the cables that came with the PBR calipers. For instance, I have a 91 or 92 rear end with PBRs under my 83 car, the cables hooked right up and work flawlessly.

You will have to remove the axles to swap the backing plates. No biggie.

I was checking out the information in other posts on this subject. One article, on how to add 1LE brakes seemed to say (and maybe it did say) that you can use the original rotor with those PBR's. Is that right? Thanks!

No, you cannot use the original rotor. You must use the 1LE rotor w/ the 1LE caliper.

Thanx,ANDYZ28

Does anyone know if when doing this conversion from the earlier style rear disc to the 89 or 1LE style if the proportioning valve must be changed also?

Yes...do a search on prop valve or my ID and you'll get the right part number and info. Or go to Daniel Burke's page and get the info there. You will need the '88 and earlier style, "first design" prop valve.

Also, you will need to swap the master cyliinder to a disc/drum car.
