SCCA Roll bar mounting question
SCCA Rulebook states "shall
not be more than six inches behind the driver". Now is that 6" behind the shoulders? 6" from the bottom of the seat? 6" from the middle, to average it all out? 6" from where?
My seat sits reclined, so 6" from the base is certainly not the same as 6" from my shoulders.
And before suggestions are made for sitting my seat more upright, that isn't going to happen. At 6'5", reclined allows 2 things.....Headroom and for my long arms not to be cramped into folded positions for reaching the steering wheel.

I'm 99% sure they are talking about the distance from the seat at the height of the main hoop crossbrace. The purpose of the rule is to provide some support in case of a seat failure so they are not talking about the base. I am only wondering if the meaning is from the driver shoulder or the back of the seat. With a seat tha reclined I'm guessing that you would have a hard time being more than 6" away from the seat back.

I was always told that the bar has to be at least 6" away from the driver's head. thats how I made mine anyway.
Stephen, I'm 6'4" so I know the boat you're in. You have a hard-top car which makes it worse. You can lean back, but when you hold your arm straight out your wrist should be at the rim of the steering wheel. If you're leaned back for head clearance with the roof of the car, it becomes a juggling act to get leg room or steering wheel reach, if you're leaned back too far you can't have both. Putting a race seat in my car mounted right on the factory seat doublers has lowered the seat substantially over stock and has bought me plenty of room. I'm using the Kirkey Deluxe Road Race seat.
