Steering shaft/box clearance issue

Just reinstalled my steering shaft and box. Its been a while since i pulled them off and cant remember how tight the rag joint was with the steering box. I bolted the shaft to the steering column then the steering box to the frame, however it seems that their is some space betweent the rag joint and steering box. I tried prying the rag joint as close to the box as possible but it doesnt look right.

Is there supposed to be that much space between the rag joint and steering box?

Any help greatly appreciated!

No.

1. Install the upper coupler on the steering shaft and install/tighten the bolt.
2. Pull down on the shaft to install on steering gear stub. The coupling must be fully seated so splines are not visible between coupler and gear. Install/tighten the bolt.

Doesnt seem like it wants to move any further? is that typical? how can i make it move further?

Should the bolt line up with the grove in the gear stub?

thanks for your time!

Re: Steering shaft/box clearance issue

The pinch bolt at the bottom needs to go through the notch on the shaft of the box.

Re: Steering shaft/box clearance issue

If memory serves, you have to REMOVE the pinch bolt for the thing to slide on... it's supposed to fit in that groove to keep it from being able to come off but will also not let it go back on.

Re: Steering shaft/box clearance issue

For some reason the steering shaft was compressed in and wouldnt reach far enough. Once i got it extended it bolted right in, as you guys instructed.

Thanks Everyone for your help! I would never be able to finish this project without TGO Members committing their time to helping others!
