Do I need an adjustable torque arm

I need a torque arm.

Car will be a daily driver.
Mild tpi
t5 trans
stock rear.

Rear set up
adjustable control arms
adjustable panhard bar
bilstien shocks
lowered about 2" in rear

Was thinking about a jegster arm, like the idea of getting it off the trans, good price too.

Do I "need" an adjustable bar?

Only if you're experiencing driveline vibrations under heavy load.

Cars in a million pieces right now, so I have no idea if there are any vibrations.

I would say yes if it's lowered or you will be racing the car.

No you don't "need" one, but they sure are nice. I ran around years on the iroc with the stock TA 2" lowered.

Thats what I was thinking. For a street car I don't 'need' one, but the pricing is not much more.

I went ahead and ordered the Jegster adjustable one.

Re: Do I need an adjustable torque arm

It will be nice to be able to adjust pinion angle if you find that your car has a driveline vibration once you get it together.

Re: Do I need an adjustable torque arm

Personal experience: I wish I had ordered an adjustable one years back when I just randomly assumed a non-adjustable UMI TQ arm would do the trick.. It's still hooked up to the trans, and not adjustable so I cannot change pinion angle. If I could go back, I would have spent the extra 100$ or wtv it is to get adjustable atleast, and even the one that mounts to their aftermarket x-member to take the stress off the tranny tailshaft.

Good to hear, already ordered an adjustable unit.

I used to just ride on factory iroc springs cut to the drop I wanted, everything else stockish. Now I'm on a different set-up all together.

Re: Do I need an adjustable torque arm

I went with the Spohn adjustable cross-member mounted (not tail shaft) with the heim joints. I like it, at least it feels like it made a difference. On shifts and sudden throttle I can hear the joint making a little noise, but I don't care.

That's the one I've been wanting, but my shopping list is so long, I'm trying to keep the budget down.

Trying to get the orange car back in daily driver status soon.
I'm driving my 71 camaro daily now.

Re: Do I need an adjustable torque arm

This is a common question I get asked. People believe that if they don't have vibrations now, they don't need to get an adjustable. Well that's simply not the case. The factory torque arm isn't what you would call "precise" and it's not a very solid part. Going to a more robust arm like our TA002 - which is set up for factory pinion angle - will be very solid and show how off your pinion angle actually is. If you're lowered 2-inches your rearend is 2-inches higher than it was when it left the factory, and you pinion angle is no longer set correctly. How far off you will be is going to vary by vehicle, but it's always just a good bet to go with adjustable and never have to buy another one again.
