Is autozone right about wheel bearings?
i recently went to autozone to get timken wheel bearings for my 92 RS without the 1LE package. Neither their website nor the store computer could tell me which bearing i needed and which were for the 1LE. The guy who helped me was a Camaro enthusiast (said he had owned an IROC and was on his second LT1 4thgen with 383stroker) and knew exactly what i was talking about but couldn't tell me which bearings i needed. So i e-mailed the company and this is their reply. Is this correct?
The 1LE option Camaro would use the same equipment as an IROC 350 and therefore would take Inner bearings SET6, Outer SET3 and the seal is 8871. Same as the IROC from 88-90.
I apologize for the inconvenience and can assure you that will update our catalog to reflect that option.

The A3 outer bearing, which the 1LE uses, has a larger OD than the standard A34 bearing.
The 1LE ran from 88-92. The 1LE was equipped with both the 305 and 350.

Agreed; all correct, except for the part about "IROC 350". That isn't an indicator of which brakes a car came with. The VAST majority of those came with the same brakes as all the rest of them.
The difference is the 1LE brake option, which also has different rotors, calipers, and pads. Those brakes were also used in the B4C RPO, which was the "police equipment". It is often described as "performance option", which is accurate as far as it goes, but of course EVERY Camaro owner always seems to think that their car has all the "performance options", and therefore orders it incorrectly. But you can include a more identifiable characteristic and maybe help guide people down the correct path by describing some visible property of something. Therefore your best bet would be to list one option, with Set 6 & Set 34, for "all except performance option" or the like; then the other option, with Set 6 & Set 3, for "w 1LE or B4C aluminum calipers and 11.8" rotors ONLY".
